Microwave

Finally, after some prompting on where it was, the microwave was fitted yesterday. It looks quite small when I see it again so not sure if our large plates will fit in it or not?

Wardrobe doors

The sliding doors in the upper living area have been installed this week along with the wardrobe doors. The ones in the bedrooms are mirrored while the triple one is white.

We couldn't remember what we chose so quite happy with them all. Still loads if light in the house which is great!

Front door and outside shower

The front door has finally been painted and the translucent glass installed. The light can still get into the hallway which is good.

The concreters were back to put the outside shower base and drain in. We'll have to install the shower and taps ourselves which shouldn't be too much of an issue.

Hmmmm - splashbacks

The splashback was installed today and ... I'm not sure. It's very red, blood red in in fact. George chose it so I wonder what he'll think of it. He's currently in Houston so it'll be a lovely surprise for him.

Come to think of it - it's valentine red!!!! Subconsciously he's telling me he loves me, or the house?

Driveway

Made an attempt at creating a driveway - very basic but gives you an idea what we're after.

I think it's going to have to be asphalt/bitumen as the exposed aggregate is too expensive.

Lights

The electrician has been back to finish off the lights.

Mirrors

Omg - what a day. Everything has been happening!

Mirrors were installed in all the upstairs bathrooms and the outside lights have gone up too.

Render

Last of the render went on today. The house looks beautiful. Crisp, clean and WHITE! The guy said it should be good for 10-15 years and then we might need to paint it.

Once the scaffolding comes down I'll try and get a better picture.

Ovens and range hood

The electricians put these in yesterday. I think they look great and will hopefully cater for the kids ever-increasing appetites!

The range hood has a glass canopy that we've always liked as we had a Smeg one in Aberdeen. Does its job but doesn't block out too much light.

Electrics

The electricians have been in all week and been very busy!

All the lights are in. The girls are loving their mini-chandeliers and I'm loving the tear drop lights in our walk-in.

Not so sure about the kitchen lights as I think they are a bit big but think we'll live with them and see how we get on.

The dining room light looks great and the kids picked the stair one which is a waterfall of LEDs! The jury is out on that.

Toilet!

Things are moving along well. We've had various people in this week. The plumber has been fitting the toilets and the hot water system.

The render has been going on in the garage and the scaffolding has returned to the outside for the last section to be rendered.

I delivered all the lights to the electrician on Thursday and I think he said he'd be st the house on Monday. I forgot to buy the bulbs so will need to do that by then.

The balustrade was also installed yesterday and then the guy got himself bogged down in the driveway. Next door kindly helped out but not without commenting about the dust on her driveway :-$

Tiling

Finally got access to the house today as I've been working a lot last week.

Jason, the tiler, was doing the travertine floors to all the bathrooms and toilets upstairs. He is also doing the wall tiling in all the wet areas such as the prep area in the kitchen, all the bathrooms as well as the laundry.

Absolutely delighted with how it's all turned out. Just the floor tiles to be grouted and the sealant to be out on.

Lighting

Went to the lighting shop to order the lights, pendants etc for the house.

35 downlights, 9 oysters, 4 front lights, 5 back lights, 9 pendants later and the bill is astronomical. The guy was lovely and discounted everything by 10-15% and I paid the deposit.

Just as I'm about to leave he reminds me that I need to buy the bulbs - approx $500 worth - aaarrrrgggghhhhh!!

Wall sealant

The painters were back yesterday to put sealant on the outside walls and they managed to get the back and side wall painted white.

Today the garage floor was poured.

Bath installed

The house is all locked up so it's difficult to get pictures. The builders have a construction key to access all the houses that they are building at any one time. Good idea but means that they don't like owners having access to them. So, I need wait until there are workmen in the house to gain access.

Officially excited!

The kitchen man has been installing the cabinets today - slowly but surely. The bath was delivered and is sitting in the theatre room.

Not too sure about the worktop - it's quite creamy but hopefully it will go with the travertine.

I picked up three carpet samples today and they all turned out to be almost the same colour! I took it to the house but because everything is so blindingly white the carpet looks very chocolatey. So not sure what to do.
